A member of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party, he is the son of senior DMK leader Durai Murugan. Kathir Anand was first elected to the 17th Lok Sabha from Vellore in 2019 and was re-elected in 2024. Throughout his tenure, he has served on various parliamentary committees, including those for Education, Commerce, and Human Resource Development.
