Pratap Chandra Sarangi (born January 4, 1955) is an Indian politician from Balasore, Odisha. An alumnus of Fakir Mohan College, Utkal University, Sarangi is celebrated for his austere lifestyle and profound commitment to social work. He is notably recognized for establishing numerous 'Ekal Vidyalayas' (one-teacher schools) across tribal and interior regions of Odisha. His political journey is rooted in grassroots activism, with early associations including leadership roles in the Bajrang Dal and Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP). He served two terms as an MLA from Nilagiri (2004-2014) before being elected to the Lok Sabha in 2019 from Balasore. His simple image, often arriving at events on a bicycle, garnered national attention. He served as a Minister of State for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and Animal Husbandry from 2019 to 2021. In 2024, he successfully defended his Balasore seat in a high-voltage triangular contest, winning by a substantial margin of over 1.47 lakh votes.
