Murlidhar Mohol (born November 9, 1974) hails from Mulshi taluka in Maharashtra; his family relocated to Pune in 1975, settling in Kothrud. He comes from a family of wrestlers and underwent formal wrestling training in Kolhapur during his youth. Associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) since he was 12, Mohol has deep grassroots connections. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Shivaji University and is also engaged in agriculture and business. His formal political journey started in 1996 when he became the chief of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) for Pune. He steadily climbed the political ladder in the city's civic administration, serving as the Mayor of Pune from November 2019 to March 2022. During his mayoral tenure, he played a crucial role in overseeing key urban projects such as the Pune Metro, the Mula-Mutha river pollution abatement, and efforts to establish a new medical college. In the 2024 Indian general election, he successfully contested the Pune Lok Sabha constituency and was subsequently appointed as the Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Cooperation.
